WITCHES is an experiment in cinematic-adaptation-as-witchcraft. It recasts the narrative of Macbeth through the figure of the three witches to provide a space for cast and crew to perform a personalized anti-patriarchal ritual. The first scene of the film was constructed particularly in collaboration with the actors playing the witches, as they selected locations, props, gestures, and lines from Macbeth that held particular significance for them. The second scene was written as a confrontation between the Witches and the Macbeth analogue based on the symbology that had appeared in the ritual thus far.
